Our salesperson is going to contact me tomorrow and let me know exactly when they’re gonna have the car ready, plates, insurance, and all.

I wanted to ask the salesperson if they could debadge the car before giving it to us, but my family members argue that its a bit off point (its like asking him to get me a coke, someone said) Do you guys think its too much to ask? It saves me the time and money it would take me to buy the tools they already have. (a heat tool and the special treatment for the glue)

Hmm, maybe poke them about it slightly, in a sort of “do you guys do such a thing?” way.

Or, if you want to play it safe, just keep it DIY.

Yeah, but we don’t really have AutoZone here.. if I want a tool I need to buy it and really buying a heat gun to use it once because I have a weird OCD issue with badges seems like a waste of money.

Since its Kia I doubt they do a lot of debadging now that I think of it...

wait a minute... my university has a vehicle test laboratory... I’m sure I could use one of their bays and a heat gun! But I’d also rather have a professional do it... I don’t want to ruin the paint of a brand new car!

I’ll ask them very nicely and if they say no, I’ll go to a mechanic and ask if they could...

What made you pick the Kia over everything else out there?

That’s a lot of money to spend on an unproven chassis on a first model year with an interior that comes up short compared to smaller cars that cost as much.

Did you need a full size car?

Well, Mexico City isn’t a great place to have a flashy car. I think the Kia has all of the performance we wanted with almost no badge recognition. It is not an unproven chassis; its used by the genesis models, so is the engine. and either way it has a lot of good names attached to it!

Kia brand for reliability and nice warranty

Ex M cheif chasis tunning, Nurburing testing

Ex audi designer styling, I think its pretty!

I know it has a lot of downsides like the fact that it is far less luxurious than a BMW or an Audi and that it is still a relatively flashy car.

We did need a full size car. I normally carpool and when I am not using the car, my sisters are, so... yeah...

I think this is a great purchase, and of course I’m looking forward to your detailed review.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask them to debadge if you want it. All they can do is decline. As my mom always says, “if you don’t ask, you don’t get.”

But what was the specific reason why you decided to buy it? Did it handle better than the other cars you looked at? Was the power delivery better? Did you get a good deal?

Curious in part because the last time I considered a Hyundai/Kia product, I was completely turned off by the absolutely horrid dealership experience. Plus, the 5.0 genesis I drove was a sloppy mess of a car.

I’m a young person, so no... I don’t have that kind of money! But my seven year old jeep was getting too old ( seven year old cars can’t be driven daily due to Hoy no circula), given public transportation is bad here and I need to commute about 40km a day, the chose to buy a new car that I will be using everyday.

my dad has a 2014 grand Cherokee that he really likes and chose to buy the stinger rather than handing me down his Cherokee, but I can see him taking the stinger on a ride sometime!

I shouldn’t get too comfortable calling it mine, but its probably going to be my daily driver for the length of my college studies.

Heat guns can also be used to easily strip oil based paint on wood. I don’t know if you do any woodworking, but I find my heat gun coming in handy all the time. There is still a lot of sanding to get it down to where I like to work with repurposed wood, but it saves a ton of time and wasted sandpaper.

Dealer here was quite nice!

We chose it because it wasn’t a flashy car. We were cross shopping with a Ford Fusion v6. having driven both we liked the stinger far more.

Our most important objective was getting a fast car that didn’t have a fast badge.

Let me put it this way: it is the only rear wheel drive four door car that we could get new for under 40K that wasn’t a flashy badge affair.

V8. I have never had even half of 420 naturally aspirated horses before. With a twitch of my pinky, I can launch into orbit. It takes some getting used to.

yeah, I know what you mean! I drove a Maserati with the twin turbo v6 and it was quite fast! I need to adapt because I’m going from a 365hp 2.5 ton jeep to a 365hp 1.7 kia!

Best beware!

I don’t know what’s available in your area, but I joined a maker space a couple years back where I took a couple ~2 hour long classes and learned how to MIG weld, operate a few CNC machines (laser cutter, plasma cutter, etc.) and allowed me access a bunch of tools I knew how to use, just didn’t have the money or space for in my apartment.

Now in the midst of acquiring the tools I found I used the most for my own workshop, but I’ll definitely be bartering odd job help for access and help with tools I still can’t afford.

the k900 isn’t sold here, but I remember seeing one with diplomatic plates and it had some presence to it! I always cared a bit more about the more sort of left field cars than the bmws and Audis of the world.

Me too. But I plan to make my review by driving its competitors (LS400, etc) and comparing, because I don’t think even car people know how to classify it. That’s the story I think is waiting to be told.

I am allowed to use their physics lab equipment without supervision and their chemistry equipment after passing an exam.

I also use the 3d printers, but to use the CNC machine I think that I need to have a certification that I’m not an idiot.

I don’t see the point of debadging this particular car. Doesn’t it come in just 1 flavor? Europeans will debadge to hide the fact that they opted for the smaller or larger engine depending upon their predilection. Do you want to remove the KIA brand badge? Again, KIA is so down market that removing the badge may just make people think it is something more expensive.

All the trashing aside, the piece that James May did on the Stinger made it look like a really good car. It’s biggest downside is that it’s got KIA written all over it. They should have done what sister company Hyundai did with the Tiburon, and that is make a unique badge just for the model. Perhaps with a little ingenuity, you might consider doing something similar.

Kinja'd!!!2

Oh, no... the kia badge stays! I’m talking about the “Stinger” and “GT” Badges

I’d also remove the 320i or 340i badge if it was a BMW... not because I want people to not know if its the cheap one or the expensive one, but because I think its pointless to have your model displayed to the world as if its a dick measuring contest!

I just think they mess with the car’s looks... and if I was buying a car like an Audi that has the model size on one side and the engine size and tipe on the other side id be removing it too.

Go for it. It’s your car. Careful with the heat gun. It can soften and remove paint. I’ve actually had pretty good luck removing decals from cars with a hair dryer, but make sure its one that gets hot.

I remember awhile back reading that Audi and BMW etc would do it for free or for a minuscule fee. I don’t see as too much, just an extra added touch for a somebody handing over a chunk of money.
